Self Improvement Doesn't Have to Happen by Yourself

Aren't we all trying to improve in some way every day? I don’t think anyone out there is trying to stay the same or go backward, but I do think we sometimes miss the most important steps in improving ourselves.

One of the critical points, as I see it, is that improvement very seldom exists in isolation. We need others to reach that level we dream about.
Here are a few thoughts on getting additional help to improve:

  • Associate with people at the level you aspire to. The best way to find out what it’s like and what you need to do is to go to those who are there

  • Seek wisdom from those who came before you. The best way to find out about the path you have chosen is to talk to those who have already walked it

  • Make sure to have a circle of people who will stretch you and not just comfort you. Travel with those who know more and can therefore teach you more.

  • Make sure to read every day about where you want to go. You may not know anyone who is exactly where you want to be, but you can find articles and quotes about that person that will give you guidance.

  • Watch, listen, read what will help you learn about the area you are pursuing. It might cost some money, but look at it as an investment, not just an expense. Be selective in what you buy.

  • Become the best “question asker” ever. I have found that people do want to help because when they help you two things happen to them - they feel good about themselves and they actually get to show how much they know.

And finally, one thing you can actually do yourself: start today to work on accomplishing the points above. I think you will find these steps not only helpful, but inspiring. If done consistently, you will see that they can pay great dividends for your improvement!
